Welcome

An oasis of calm amidst a bustling city, Royal Durban Golf Club is conveniently located in the heart of Greyville. The Club is easily accesible from anywhere in Durban, making it the ideal place to meet clients or friends for breakfast, lunch or a round of golf.

photo-main-pageRoyal Durban is not only unique in its setting and character, but is one of South Africa's most demanding championship courses. The length of 6115 metres could be considered a short course by modern day standards, however in Durban's humid sub tropical atmosphere it plays more like 6500 metres with little run on its lush fairways.

LEAGUE GOLF RESULTS 10 FEBRUARY 2013

Congratluations to Premier League Captain Richard Marrier and his Team on an exciting fight back to win their opening match of the season 7 - 5 against Mt Edgecombe at Royal. After losing the mornings foursomes 1 - 3, the Team needed to win 5 of the afternoons 8 singles matches to halve the match, however in true Royal Durban style the Boys fought back to win 6 of the matches and take the points. Special mention must be made of 15 year old Junior Club Champion Ruben Coetzer who played in his first Premier League match and although he lost both his matches these words from his Captain will be an inspiration - There were many highlights from the day - Ruben’s fight back from being 5 down to pull it back to all square after 15 before succumbing 2&1 while this is what Club Captain Kevin Dunkley had to say about Ruben - What a baptism of fire for young Ruben, he will have learnt so much from the experience

Unfortunately Matthew Bird's A Team match against Durban Country Club at Cotswold Downs was washed out while Frans Kemper's Allerton side were beaten 3 - 9 by Umhlali at Maidstone

Garth's Golf tips

To escape fairway bunkers, you must make good ball-first contact. Avoid hitting the sand first. If you take sand after the ball, like a normal divot, that’s fine. When you hit the sand first, the club slows down and will result in a shot that comes up well short of the green. To make good ball-first club contact, you must adjust your setup. Place the ball slightly back in your stance. This will result in hitting the ball first before bottoming out and hitting the sand. Another setup key is to grip down slightly on the club about half an inch. Doing this makes the club slightly shorter and more difficult to hit the sand too soon during the swing. As a result, take one extra club so you can make a controlled swing.
